Bernard K. Passman unveiled a one-of-a-kind and limited edition collection of black coral jewelry at their flagship gallery on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. In addition to the retail store, the Passman Gallery houses Rodeo Drive’s only museum, showcasing the designer’s 30 year history in making timeless jewelry and sculpture from hand carved black coral. It is a beautiful tribute to Bernard K. Passman, who passed away in February 2007.

This year’s “We the People” Festival will be taking place on Saturday, September 27th from 2:00 PM to midnight at the Los Angeles State Historical Park. Featuring an impressive array of music’s most inspiring artists, such as world class musician and bassist from PRIMUS, Les Claypool, WU TANG CLAN’s the RZA, from RAGE AGAINST the MACHINE, Tom Morello performing as the Nightwatchman and L.A. based punk rock legends SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. This socially conscious and politically charged event will feature speakers such as anti-war activist, Cindy Sheehan and Green Party presidential nominee; Cynthia McKinney .The festival will feature multiple stages of entertainment, education and enlightenment. “We the People” are the first three words of the United States Constitution which brought together a framework for all law and government in the U.S. and it is the “We the People” Festival which will remind us that we are the people who can make change and to “Stand up, Speak up, Unite!” Orlando Padilla, the creator of the “We the People” Festival says, “I passionately believe that the real power to improve our world rests within the people. By gathering artists, speakers and all like-minded individuals dedicated to making change, we the people, can lead to major social impact that will improve the quality of life for people around the world.”
The artists and speakers at “We the People” will vary in genre and political viewpoints to encourage a diverse gathering of individuals. Additional artists on the bill include: Dilated Peoples, Shavo Odadjian (System of a Down), EPMD, DJ Premier (Gang Starr), Z-Trip, Eek-A-Mouse, Murs, Barrington Levy, Bassnectar, Fishbone, Free The Robots, Flying Lotus, B-Side Players, Roots of Creation, Markus James, Look Daggers and Quinto Sol. While GCN radio personality, Jack Blood will also be a featured guest speaker.
Now in its third year, the “We the People” Festival has grown from its initial gathering in Watts, CA in 2006 with an audience of 4,000 people to the largest area of green land in downtown Los Angeles that can accommodate over 10,000 people. This revolutionary event will bring together people from all walks of life and will inspire attendees to realize that positive social reform on a global scale begins with “We the People.”

Recently, fabulous women came together to enjoy drinks, savory delights and the latest in shoe fashion all compliments of Macy’s in Sherman Oaks and Glitterati Magazine. Inspired by today’s hot TV programs, including Gossip Girl, Mad Men, Lipstick Jungle and Dancing with the Stars, models worked the runway in gorgeous fall outfits and shoes by Betsy Johnson, DKNY, Donald J Stuart Weitzman, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, MICHAEL by Michael Kors and Tahari to name a few. Shoe-ologist and author of Never Date a Man in Alligator Shoes, Donna Sozio and fashion guy Lawrence Zarian provided fashion tips and laughs for the stylish guests in attendance.

Duckie Brown, founded in 2001 by Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, is one of my fave menswear lines. They make impeccably tailored clothing, elegantly dressing fashionable men around the globe. Their “risky” looks say yes to men who want well made, fun to wear real fashion pieces.
The Spring 2009 collection, presented at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week, is inspired by urban bike messengers, but made elegant and tailored. The above look is one that will definitely make it into our closet next spring!
Finally a return to wider leg pants! The skinny leg made popular by Dior Homme are being bastardized everywhere, and many guys, whether they should be wearing them or not, are abusing the style. Thanks Duckie Brown, for perpetuating a cut that will hopefully be received by as many men as the skinny leg, so we can stop seeing saggy ass, fat thighs, and ass crack!

Throughout history many things elegant and infinitely refined have come to us from our British ancestors across the pond. Notably — The Aston Martin, high tea, and well… me? (Although I will certainly allow Andrea great liberty in her editing process to question that!) Seeing as I do place an ice cube in every glass of Beaujolais that I drink and am prone to forgoing socks while in a Hugo Boss suit… but really, I do reside in Los Angeles!
The newest import to land in the United States, and moving their headquarters to New York is Radcliffe. While recently in Las Vegas I viewed their collection at Project and was impressed by crisp lines and both ambitious and distinct designs. As stated, recently hopping the pond to establish a full-scale global brand, Radcliffe is quickly building a US reputation as the “perfect fit” denim. Check out their brilliant “Heels to Flats” concept that allows you to adjust your hem, on the basis of your needs, with chic cufflinks provided! The blazers defy usual trends with a slimming, fresh and nuanced appeal. Do pop into Kitson on Robertson in West Hollywood and treat yourself to something Anglo. Simon Spurr’s line of vintage inspired and contemporary feel menswear is relatively new to the scene. His fully canvased suits will hopefully be making their way into our repertoire in the coming days for Fall 2008, but most definitely this Spring 09 look below!
